Edinburgh: Among scientists hope that a drug is effective based on green tea to prevent skin cancer will be produced after a study showed that beverage concentrates can eliminate nearly half of the tumor disease.
Senior lecturer in the Institute of Pharmacy and Biomedical Sciences Strathclyde, Dr Christine Dufes said a study conducted laboratory team of researchers at the University of Strathclyde, found that 40 percent of skin cancer tumor can be removed using a substance in green tea called epigallocatechin gallate.
He said that, over the years, green tea has a substance believed to prevent cancer and research on dense never made before. However this is the first time researchers have successfully used it to shrink tumors of skin cancer.
Previously failed
Several previous attempts failed because scientists use drip method can not obtain sufficient concentration to eliminate the tumor involved.
"Following the research team aims to create a method of body protein that carries iron molecules to the infected skin cancer," he said in a statement posted on the journal Nanomedicine.
He said laboratory tests conducted on a type of human skin cancer showed 40 percent tumor disappeared after the treatment for a month, while another 30 percent shrink.
Reduce the size of the tumor
Dr Dufes said the method used to show green tea extract reduced the size of most of the tumor every day and in some cases successfully remove it.
"The results are very encouraging and we hope it will open the way to new methods of cancer treatment more effective," he said.
He said when the droplet method used green tea extract flow throughout the body and when it comes to tumor already mixed with other chemicals and become too liquid.
"By targeting the transmission system in the body, extract it goes straight to the tumor without menjejjaskan other normal tissues," he said
